Winter Wonderland: A Heritage Scrapbook Layout

Winter Wonderland: A Heritage Scrapbook Layout

I had so much fun creating this wintery heritage layout featuring my Nanny as a teenager! I really wanted to capture both the joyful energy of the photo and the soft, vintage winter feel—blending nostalgia with a touch of whimsy.

Showcasing the Mittens

For the background, I used the Wonderland collection from Fancy Pants Designs (2011). I absolutely love the mitten pattern on this paper, so I kept the design simple to really let it shine. It perfectly complements the wintry theme and adds a cozy, playful touch to the page.

Layered Snowy Hills

One of the papers in the collection had text arranged in a gentle hill pattern, which inspired me to create my own layered snowdrifts. I hand-cut curved hills from coordinating papers and popped the topmost layer up with foam tape for dimension. This subtle lift adds depth and gives the page a soft, snowy effect.

Photo Layers & Distressed Edges

I layered the black-and-white photo onto scraps from the same Wonderland collection, distressing the edges with my paper distresser. This roughened texture reminds me of freshly fallen snow and adds a little extra vintage character. Since the photo itself captures such a fun, carefree moment, I wanted to balance the vintage look with playful elements.

Embellishments & Final Touches

To enhance the wintery vibe, I pulled in some ephemera pieces from my stash and added those gorgeous foam hearts from Simple Stories Winter Woods. They coordinate so beautifully with the Fancy Pants papers and bring in that extra bit of texture and warmth. For a finishing touch, I scattered some transparent glitter snowflake stickers across the background, adding just the right amount of shimmer.

Bringing It All Together

This layout was such a joy to make! I love how it captures the carefree spirit of my Nanny having fun in the snow while still keeping a soft, vintage aesthetic. Mixing older supplies with newer embellishments really brought the whole page together, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.

I’d love to hear—do you like incorporating vintage photos into your scrapbook layouts? How do you balance the old with the new? Let’s chat in the comments!
